Great Time for Speckled Trout Fishing

March 5, 2015 by tourguide

Speckled Trout fishing in Venice, Louisiana with Captain Orin Lonadier, Sea to Sky Outfitters

Our favorite time of the year to fish is coming up (even though there isn’t a bad time). May and June are great months for saltwater trout!

With the river being high and low salinity in the marsh, the fish will be a little further south around the beaches or bays.

This means one thing with them being confined in one area – fast paced fishing action! It is very typical to catch a limit of red fish in less than an hour with a great number of speckled trout.

During these months we will leave early from the Venice marina and have a relaxing ride south. The day will consist of first targeting trout. To us the trout bite is best early in the morning when the water is real calm.

After we catch a limit or as many as we can get to bite, we will then start casting close along the reeds and see if we can get a red fish to strip some drag! (Let’s all face it, that is the coolest sound and feeling ever!!!)

Typically because the reds get stacked thick in certain spots we will usually catch a limit quick. It is completely up to the customer, but we will stay out longer to catch and release. This is then the most fun! You’re not worried about a limit, and it is all relaxing.

After a while of catch and release we will start our journey back north. When we get to the marina feel free to get a bite to eat. I will go clean the fish and get everything ready for the next day!
