Regulations can change, and it is up to you to make sure you have all required licenses for what you plan to hunt. A few things worth noting include:
- Out-of-State licenses are available in a 5 day package.
- Youth who are not Texas residents will also need an out-of-state license.
- Federal and state duck stamps are required for water fowl.
- A crane stamp is required for crane hunting, and this is ONLY available online. The crane stamp is $5 along with Texas small game licenses.
- Except for the crane stamp, you should be able to obtain other required licenses at the Walmart in Plainview.
- Hunter Education Training Course is required for all hunters, resident and non-resident, who were born on or after September 2, 1971.
For complete details about the Hunter Education Training Course and all other license requirements and hunting regulations, see the Texas Parks & Wildlife website.

Lodging and meals are not included and are up to the customer to get. There are hotels and rental cabins in the area, and we recommend Yellow Cotton Bayside. It’s a clean, affordable place to stay, and their cabins have kitchens. They also have outdoor grills for your use.
Please confirm all amenities before you book. You can go to their website at Yellow Cotton Bayside Cabins & RV Park or call them at 504-534-2570.
There are some restaurants nearby and also a small Family Dollar store. If you need a Walmart, you’ll want to stop on the way before you get to Venice.
A Louisiana state saltwater fishing license is required for all fishermen, both resident and non-resident. These are available at any Walmart in Louisiana, or they can be ordered online from Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries.
